Abstract

A student is someone who is expected to be able to learn independently. However, in the context of elementary school students, independence still needs to be continuously honed so that students get used to doing things on their own without external help. In assessing the independence of elementary school students, it is necessary to have an instrument of learning independence. The aim is to measure the extent to which students are able to carry out tasks or activities independently without external assistance. In developing this research, researchers used a 4D development model consisting of Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate. Based on a literature review of aspects of student independence, 5 indicators can be formulated, namely self-confidence, initiative in learning, responsibility, self-control, and not depending on other people. From these five indicators, 5 statements have been prepared for each indicator. After carrying out validity and reliability tests, it was found that each statement item in the development of the student independence instrument could be accepted and tested. Based on research on the development of independence instruments for elementary school students, it can be concluded that the Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate stages have been carried out. Input from experts forms the basis for refinement of the validation sheet to ensure the accuracy and validity of the instrument. As a suggestion, it is important to take action based on the results of expert evaluations and involve more educational influence in validity and reliability tests.
