Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a critical thinking assessment instrument for science content that is tested in terms of validity and reliability. This research uses a type of R&D model development. This method is specifically used to produce a product and test its effectiveness (Sugiyono, 2018: 297). In the context of this development research, the researcher chose to adopt a 4D model. The data was analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis based on indicators of critical thinking ability. There are 5 aspects of critical thinking research instruments that include the ability: (a) interpreting, (b) analyzing, (c) exploring, (d) inferring, and (e) evaluating. The results of this study are: (1) The research instrument is in accordance with the essay questions developed by the researcher according to experts, (2) The validity test states that this instrument is valid and very valid with the criteria of ten questions, (3) This critical thinking instrument is a reliable instrument. It can be concluded that the critical thinking instrument is a suitable instrument to be used to measure the critical thinking ability of elementary school students
